Satellite TV Providers
There are two major satellite TV providers available to United States customers – DIRECTV and DISH Network. Both offer subscription satellite TV service and have continually grown since their creation, taking a big chunk out of the cable TV population. This is in part due to unique offerings available through DISH network and DIRECTV, and is also simply because satellite TV service, unlike cable TV, is available virtually anywhere.
The main concern with satellite TV is reception, which may suffer in the case of extreme weather or if an object, such as a tree or building, is blocking your satellite TV dish. In addition, major satellite TV companies will require renters to get permission from their landlords before installation.
DIRECTV
DIRECTV is the most popular satellite TV service in the U.S., and was the first to offer on-screen program guides and pay-per-view ordering. DIRECTV also has exclusive content, including the NFL SUNDAY TICKET, CricketTicket and NASCAR HotPass as well as the 101 Network.
DIRECTV offers HDTV, 3DTV, digital recording and Internet connectivity, as well as English and International language programming. English packages include FAMILY, CHOICE, CHOICE XTRA, CHOICE ULTIMATE and PREMIER. DIRECTV also provides service options for businesses such as hotels, restaurants, hospitals, private offices and airlines.
DISH Network
DISH Network is the third largest provider of television in the country, and is marketed as the value leader in satellite TV. DISH network was the first in the industry to introduce an HDTV receiver, and also offers digital recording options. Recent innovations from DISH Network include IPTV and TV Everywhere, which integrates the DISH WiFi HD Monitor, Remote Access app and DVR.
DISH Network also offers international, business and standard packages. Residential DISH Network packages include Americas 120, Americas 200, Americas 250 and the Everything package.
Satellite TV Installation
DIRECTV and DISH Network both offer professional installation with their service. A standard satellite TV installation will include mounting and positioning a satellite dish to the roof or other appropriate structure. A professional will ensure that it’s securely attached and positioned toward the proper satellite. An installer will also set up your receivers and give you a brief tutorial on your new system.
Satellite TV Bundles
Both DISH Network and DIRECTV now offer bundle packages with phone and internet service providers. Offers and availability vary by location.
