A Look at Insight Communications
About the Company
Insight Communications® is the 13th largest cable TV, Internet and phone provider in the U.S. with around 750,000 customers, predominantly in the Midwest. Started in 1985 and headquartered in New York City, Insight Communications mainly provides service to Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio. Insight’s largest services area is Kentucky, particularly the Louisville area.
For several years Insight had a partnership with Comcast in some Midwest markets. The two companies had equal ownership of the systems in those markets, but eventually broke up the partnership in 2007. Originally just a cable provider, Insight has worked to develop their business and offer other services like high-speed Internet and digital phone. Though it’s out of the top ten cable providers in terms of size, the company has received awards for the quality for some of their individual services, like being named one of the top four Internet providers by PC World.
Insight Communications has a variety of cable TV plans on offer ranging from standard with fewer channels, to premium with hundreds of channels and extras. Many of Insight’s HD channels and programs come free—any standard definition channel that has an HD equivalent will come with it, grouped with other HD channels in the system’s TV programming guide. Insight also offers on demand and pay-per-view channels, as well as premium movie channels like HBO, Starz, Cinemax and others. An optional HD DVR upgrade is also available.
Insight offers four broadband Internet plans. Broadband 10.0 which has download speeds up to 10 Mbps. Broadband 20.0, with download speeds up to 20 Mbps. Broadband 30.0 with download speeds up to 30 Mbps. And Broadband 50.0 with download speeds up to 50 Mbps. All plans also come with security software, email addresses, virtual storage, access to ESPN3.com and more.
Insight Communications has an unlimited calling plan that offers unlimited calling across the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Northern Mariana Islands for one flat rate each month. Calling features include call waiting, call forwarding, caller ID, remote access, voicemail to email, and more. Their international calling features do not require a separate plan, but do have different rates depending on what country is called.
Insight Communications offers services to Midwestern states like Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio. Their largest markets include Louisville, Florence and Bowling Green, KY, and Columbus, OH.
